Asia http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/ en Enhancing Back-to-School Experiences with AI-Powered Feedback http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/enhancing-back-school-experiences-ai-powered-feedback <div><p>As educators and students return to the classroom for a new academic year, the integration of AI (Artificial Intelligence) offers exciting opportunities to transform traditional learning environments. AI tools can streamline teaching, enhance personalized learning experiences, and provide data-driven insights to both educators and students. This article explores how AI can be utilized for back-to-school preparations and offers strategies to monitor student progress through AI-powered feedback.</p> <p><strong>1. Personalised Learning with AI</strong></p> <p>AI-powered platforms can adapt to each student’s unique learning pace, style, and needs. By analyzing previous performance data, these systems create personalized learning paths for students, offering customized resources and assignments. As the school year begins, teachers can leverage AI to: Identify areas where students may need additional support. Recommend supplementary materials based on individual learning gaps. Adjust lesson plans in real-time based on students' progress. AI-based tutoring tools, such as intelligent tutoring systems, offer on-demand assistance to students, simulating one-on-one tutoring by providing immediate explanations or exercises. This frees up educators to focus on more complex tasks, such as fostering critical thinking and addressing higher-level questions.</p> <p><strong>2. Efficient Classroom Management AI</strong></p> <p>can also be used to manage the logistical side of education, allowing teachers to focus more on teaching and less on administrative tasks. Back-to-school season is often chaotic, but AI can simplify the process in several ways:</p> <p>Grading Automation: AI tools can automatically grade multiple-choice tests and even some essays, reducing the workload for teachers. This gives educators more time to dedicate to lesson planning and personalized student interactions.</p> <p>Scheduling and Attendance: AI can assist in managing schedules and attendance tracking. Predictive algorithms can help schools optimize class schedules based on student performance trends and individual learning needs, improving overall efficiency.</p> <p>Smart Classrooms: Some schools are implementing AI-powered classroom management systems that can monitor class activities, helping teachers keep track of student engagement and participation during lessons. AI systems can even suggest seating arrangements or group configurations based on students’ personalities and past collaboration performance.</p> <p><strong>3. AI for Continuous Assessment and Feedback</strong></p> <p>One of AI’s most powerful features is its ability to provide continuous assessment and feedback. By monitoring student progress in real time, AI systems can identify strengths and weaknesses and offer timely feedback to both students and teachers. Formative Assessment: AI platforms can continuously analyze student performance, offering instant feedback after each assignment or test. This formative feedback allows students to learn from their mistakes and make immediate improvements, fostering a growth mindset. For teachers, AI-generated reports highlight areas where the class, as a whole, might need additional instruction. Learning Analytics Dashboards: Many AI-powered systems provide educators with detailed dashboards displaying student performance data. These dashboards allow teachers to monitor progress over time, ensuring that no student falls behind. Teachers can also use this data to tailor their lesson plans and provide targeted interventions. AI-Driven Feedback for Students: Students benefit directly from AI-driven feedback. Some AI tools even provide suggestions for study habits or specific exercises to improve in certain areas. This empowers students to take charge of their learning, increasing engagement and motivation.</p> <p><strong>4. Monitoring Student Well-being with AI</strong></p> <p>Beyond academic performance, AI can also help monitor students’ emotional and mental well-being. The return to school after a long break, especially in post-pandemic times, can be overwhelming for some students. AI tools can assist in monitoring students' well-being, allowing for early intervention when issues arise. Sentiment Analysis: AI can analyze students’ written responses, emails, or discussion contributions to detect signs of stress, frustration, or disengagement. Teachers can step in with personalized support or suggest counseling services if concerning patterns are detected. AI-Driven Behavioral Tracking: Advanced AI systems can monitor behavioural trends, such as changes in participation or absenteeism. These insights allow teachers and school counselors to proactively address potential problems, from bullying to mental health challenges.</p> <p><strong>5. Ethical Considerations and Data Privacy</strong></p> <p>When integrating AI into the classroom, addressing ethical concerns, particularly around student privacy is crucial. Schools must ensure that all AI systems comply with data protection regulations, such as GDPR or COPPA. Transparent communication with parents and students about how their data will be used is essential. Furthermore, while AI can enhance learning, it should never replace the vital role of teachers. AI should be seen as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for human interaction. Educators should remain at the center of decision-making, using AI to enhance, not diminish, the student-teacher relationship.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p> <p>As schools embrace the new academic year, AI is a transformative tool for personalizing education, streamlining classroom management, and providing real-time feedback to students and teachers. By leveraging AI tools effectively, educators can create more dynamic, responsive, and inclusive learning environments that cater to each student’s needs. However, it is crucial to implement these technologies thoughtfully, ensuring that the focus remains on enhancing human-centred education while maintaining ethical standards. With AI’s growing presence in education, back-to-school is not just a return to familiar routines but an opportunity to reimagine the future of learning.</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy <div><p>One approach that has stood the test of time is the Froebelian Approach. Unlike many modern educational fads that come and go, this philosophy has been firmly established since the early 1800s. Friedrich Froebel, a pioneer in early childhood education, coined the term Kindergarten, meaning ‘children’s garden.’ This beautifully illustrates his belief that children, like plants, need a nurturing environment where they can grow, explore, and thrive at their own pace.</p> <p>The Froebelian Approach is guided by fundamental principles that support a holistic and child-centred learning experience. Rather than viewing education as isolated subjects, Froebel emphasised interconnected learning through play and hands-on experiences. Play remains at the heart of this approach, as it is the most natural and effective way for children to learn. Whether through block building, storytelling, or imaginative role-play, play allows children to develop problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills.</p> <p>Creativity and expression are equally important. Froebel believed that activities such as singing, drawing, and constructing help children develop self-confidence and a sense of agency. Unlike traditional teacher-led instruction, educators in a Froebelian setting act as facilitators who observe, guide, and nurture rather than dictate, allowing children to explore their interests independently.</p> <p>Nature plays a central role in Froebel’s philosophy, advocating for outdoor learning and engagement with natural materials. Contemporary research continues to highlight the benefits of outdoor experiences on physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Beyond the classroom, Froebel also emphasised the importance of relationships between children, educators, families, and the wider community, fostering a strong sense of belonging and emotional well-being.</p> <p>As an Early Years leader, consultant, and the only trainee Travelling Tutor working with the Froebel Trust in the UAE, I have dedicated my career to advocating for a child-centred approach that prioritises holistic development. When children are given the space, time, and resources to explore the world on their own terms, they become independent thinkers, confident communicators, and creative problem-solvers. They develop intrinsic motivation, resilience, and a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom</p> <p>In an era dominated by standardised testing and rigid curriculums, it is easy to forget that young children learn best when they are engaged, curious, and free to explore. Overly structured education robs them of opportunities to develop essential life skills such as collaboration, innovation, and emotional intelligence. The Froebelian Approach reminds us that education is not just about academic performance but about nurturing well-rounded, capable individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society.</p> <p>To further this vision, I have established the Froebel Network UAE, a community of like-minded educators committed to implementing the Froebelian philosophy in their classrooms, nurseries, and schools. The network serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, hosting training sessions, and supporting educators in adopting a child-centred, play-based curriculum.</p> <p>As we navigate the complexities of modern Early Years education, we must not lose sight of what truly matters—the child. The Froebelian Approach provides a proven framework that nurtures children’s natural curiosity, creativity, and love for learning. By embracing play, nature, creativity, and meaningful relationships, we can create environments where children thrive.</p> <p>I encourage educators to move away from fleeting trends and reconnect with time-tested principles that respect each child’s individuality, encourage exploration, and foster a lifelong passion for learning. If you are interested in learning more, I invite you to join the Froebel Network UAE and work together to ensure that Early Years education remains meaningful, joyful, and impactful for every child.</p> <p>Written by Lisa Davage,&nbsp;Assistant Head, Arcadia School</p> <p>Lisa is an Early Years consultant and leader, specialising in the Froebelian Approach. Her practice is deeply rooted in understanding the whole child and developing a holistic approach to learning with the child at the centre of all that she does. Lisa is passionate about nurturing each child's interests and igniting curiosity. Lisa leads a Froebel network in the UAE, fostering a community of educators dedicated to this philosophy.</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_facebook_button" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_twitter_button" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_linkedin_button" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_email_button" displayText="email"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_sharethis_button" displayText="sharethis"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/reclaiming-child-centered-approach-timeless-relevance-froebelian-philosophy" st_title="Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach: The Timeless Relevance of the Froebelian Philosophy" class="st_pinterest_button" displayText="pinterest"></span> </div> <div> <div>Posted date</div> <div>1 year 1 month ago</div> </div> <div> <div>Short title</div> <div>Reclaiming a Child-Centered Approach</div> </div> <div> <div>First paragraph</div> <div><p>In today’s fast-paced world of education, implementing an Early Years curriculum can feel overwhelming. New theories and trends constantly emerge, making it easy to lose sight of what truly matters—the child. However, at its core, Early Years education should always remain child-focused. Children today are still the innately curious, eager young learners they were two hundred years ago. Their fundamental interests and needs have not changed, and it is our responsibility as educators to ensure that we honour this by providing them with meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.</p> </div> </div> <div> <div>Regions</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/africa" hreflang="en">Africa</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/asia" hreflang="en">Asia</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/caribbean" hreflang="en">Caribbean</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/central-america" hreflang="en">Central America</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/europe-0" hreflang="en">Europe</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/middle-east" hreflang="en">Middle East</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/north-america" hreflang="en">North America</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/oceania" hreflang="en">Oceania</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Rate</div> <div><form class="fivestar-form-2" id="vote--2" data-drupal-selector="fivestar-form-2" action="/gess/taxonomy/term/611/feed" method="post" accept-charset="UTF-8"> <div class="clearfix fivestar-average-text fivestar-average-stars fivestar-form-item fivestar-basic"><div class="js-form-item form-item js-form-type-fivestar form-item-vote js-form-item-vote form-no-label"> <div class="js-form-item form-item js-form-type-select form-item-vote js-form-item-vote form-no-label"> <select class="vote form-select" data-drupal-selector="edit-vote" aria-describedby="edit-vote--4--description" id="edit-vote--4" name="vote"><option value="-">Select rating</option><option value="20">Give it 1/5</option><option value="40">Give it 2/5</option><option value="60">Give it 3/5</option><option value="80">Give it 4/5</option><option value="100">Give it 5/5</option><option value="0">Cancel rating</option></select> <div id="edit-vote--4--description" class="description"> <div class="fivestar-summary fivestar-summary-average-count"> <span class="empty">No votes yet</span> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div><input class="js-hide button js-form-submit form-submit" data-drupal-selector="edit-submit" type="submit" id="edit-submit--2" name="op" value="Rate" /> <input autocomplete="off" data-drupal-selector="form-ddwlap91lzkclvjayrevb3pzescpmea0mvbxfzfrhpe" type="hidden" name="form_build_id" value="form-DDwlap91LZkClvjAyrEVb3PzeScpmeA0mvBXfZFrhPE" /> <input data-drupal-selector="edit-fivestar-form-2" type="hidden" name="form_id" value="fivestar_form_2" /> </form> </div> </div> <div> <div>Top story</div> <div>On</div> </div> <div> <div>Article main topic</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/early-years-education" hreflang="en">Early Years Education</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Redirected</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>Moved to features</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>Lead image:</div> <div> <img loading="lazy" src="/gess/sites/gess/portal/files/2025-03/Lisa%20Davage%20Article%20image.jpeg" width="1024" height="768" alt="article image" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> <div> <div>New batch</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>redirected</div> <div>Off</div> </div> Wed, 05 Mar 2025 11:29:19 +0000 Jihan Ali 114801 at http://www.gesseducation.com/gess The Power of Inclusion and Its Impact on Teaching http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/power-inclusion-and-its-impact-teaching <div><p>In the transforming landscape of education, the concept of inclusion has evolved from being a buzzword to a powerful philosophy that shapes not only the educational experience but also the outcomes of students and the dynamics of teaching. At its core, inclusion is about embracing and supporting every learner regardless of their differences, whether they are related to learning abilities, socio-economic background, cultural identity, or neurodiversity.</p> <p>Inclusion in education signifies a shift from merely integrating students with diverse needs into mainstream classrooms to actively fostering an environment where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. It goes beyond physical placement; it encompasses fostering a sense of belonging, providing necessary support, and celebrating diversity in all its forms.</p> <p>As someone deeply involved in the implementation of inclusive practices, including as a director of inclusion and pathway specialist, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative effects of these approaches. My role has involved not only shaping practices and policies but also working closely with students, parents, and educators to create environments where every individual can flourish. Having served as a director of inclusion and pathway specialist, as well as heading the career advisement team in my previous role, I have seen how inclusive practices can unlock potential in students who might otherwise be marginalized or struggle in traditional settings. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job has been witnessing the growth of students who initially faced challenges such as selective mutism or speech delays.</p> <p>For instance, I recall a student who joined our school with limited verbal communication skills due to selective mutism. Through early intervention strategies, dedicated speech and language support, and a nurturing inclusive environment, the student gradually gained confidence. Within a few months, they were able to express their needs and emotions effectively, breaking through communication barriers that once hindered their learning and social interactions.</p> <p>Students with conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have also made tremendous strides in our inclusive environment. By tailoring teaching methods, providing individualized support, and fostering understanding among peers, these students have not only academically succeeded but have also developed crucial social skills and self-confidence. One remarkable success story involves a student with ASD who initially struggled with transitions and social interactions.</p> <p>With personalized support from our inclusive education team and collaboration with parents, the student gradually adapted to classroom routines, developed coping mechanisms, and began actively participating in group activities. Over time, the student's academic performance improved significantly, and they became more engaged and confident in their abilities. Another example is a student with ADHD who benefited from a structured learning environment and personalized learning strategies. By accommodating their needs and providing consistent support, the student not only excelled academically but also demonstrated improved focus and self-regulation skills. These success stories are not isolated incidents but reflective of our school’s commitment to inclusive education. The trust and satisfaction of parents have been integral to our success, with a remarkable 100% inclusion registered student retention rate and growing staff retention within the inclusion department.</p> <p>This reflects not only the effectiveness of our inclusive practices but also the positive impact they have on the entire school community. From a teaching perspective, inclusive practices challenge educators to innovate, adapt, and personalize their approach to meet diverse learning needs. By embracing inclusivity, teachers become facilitators of growth and agents of change. They learn to recognize and celebrate each student's strengths while providing the necessary scaffolding and accommodations to support areas of growth. Moreover, inclusive classrooms promote empathy, respect, and understanding among students. Through collaborative learning experiences and peer support initiatives, students learn to appreciate diversity and develop interpersonal skills that are crucial in an interconnected world.</p> <p>Inclusion in education is not merely about meeting legal requirements or achieving academic milestones; it is about fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and empowerment. As someone deeply committed to inclusive practices and having witnessed their transformative impact, I firmly believe that every student, regardless of their background or abilities, deserves an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed. Through my roles as a director of inclusion and academic advisor, I have seen firsthand how inclusive education not only supports individual students but also strengthens the fabric of our school community. By celebrating diversity, providing personalized support, and fostering a culture of inclusion, we can truly unlock the potential of every learner and prepare them for a future where differences are embraced and valued.</p> <p>In conclusion, the power of inclusion lies not only in its ability to enhance learning outcomes but also in its capacity to create a more just, compassionate, and inclusive society—one where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.</p> <p>Written by Faiza Mubeen, Director of Inclusion, Beech Hall School Riyadh</p> </div> <div Esports and Special Education http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/esports-and-special-education <div><p>Welcome, to the fantastical world where education meets entertainment, where digital dexterity meets cognitive development, and where students with individual needs find their stride: Esports in Education! Buckle up, because we're about to embark on a pixelated journey where controllers are keys to academic prowess, and victory royales are celebrated as much as A+ grades.</p> <p>Now, some of you might be scratching your heads, wondering, "Esports in education? Isn't that just a glorified excuse to play video games in class?" Well, hold onto your joysticks, because the reality is far more nuanced than that. Esports, or competitive video gaming, has been steadily gaining recognition as a legitimate educational tool, offering a plethora of benefits for students of all abilities, including those with individual needs.</p> <p>So, what's the buzz all about? In 2022, the global eSports market was valued at just over 1.38 billion U.S. dollars. Additionally, the eSports industry's global market revenue was forecast to grow to as much as 1.87 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.This is an industry that could well dominate in the next 10 years. Here in the UAE, Abu Dhabi are building the first eSports island worth over 1BLN Dollars investing hugely into this new industry, the value of eSports is abundant and not just for monetary success. It can have profound effects on inclusivity too. Let's dive into the pixelated pandemonium and uncover the secrets to success for students with special needs in the realm of esports.</p> <p><strong>1. Inclusivity is the Name of the Game:</strong></p> <p>One of the most remarkable aspects of esports is its inherent inclusivity. Unlike traditional sports that may require a certain level of physical ability, esports levels the playing field (pun intended) by focusing on mental agility and strategic thinking. This means that students with diverse abilities can actively participate and excel in competitive gaming.</p> <p>Imagine a world where a student's success isn't measured by how fast they can run or how high they can jump, but rather by their ability to strategize, communicate, and adapt in a virtual arena. In the realm of esports, everyone has a chance to shine, regardless of their physical limitations.</p> <p><strong>2. Building Essential Skills, One Pixel at a Time: </strong>Esports isn't just about mindless button-mashing; it's a complex cognitive challenge that hones a wide range of skills essential for academic success. From critical thinking and problem-solving to teamwork and communication, competitive gaming offers a virtual playground where students can flex their mental muscles and level up their academic abilities.</p> <div style="mso-element:para-border-div;border:none #E3E3E3 1.0pt;mso-border-alt:&#10;none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;background:white"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">For students with individual needs, esports can be particularly beneficial. Many games require players to think on their feet, make split-second decisions, and collaborate with teammates—all skills that are invaluable both in and out of the classroom. By engaging in esports, students with special needs can develop confidence, improve social skills, and unlock their full potential in ways that traditional educational methods may struggle to achieve.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm"><strong>3. Breaking Down Barriers and Bridging Gaps:</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">Perhaps the most significant advantage of esports in education is its ability to break down barriers and bridge gaps between students of different abilities. In the virtual realm, disabilities fade into the background as students come together to compete, collaborate, and conquer challenges as a team.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm"><strong>4. From Pixels to Progress:</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">So, where do we go from here? How do we harness the power of esports to empower students with individual needs and revolutionize education as we know it? The answer lies in embracing innovation, fostering inclusivity, and thinking outside the box (or should I say, the console?</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">Educators, administrators, and policymakers must recognize the potential of esports as a valuable educational tool and integrate it into curricula in meaningful ways. This means providing access to gaming technology, fostering a culture of inclusivity, and offering support and resources for students with special needs to thrive in the world of competitive gaming.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">But most importantly, it means recognizing that education doesn't have to fit into a one-size-fits-all mould. By embracing the unique abilities and interests of every student, we can create a more inclusive, equitable, and empowering educational experience for all.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">Esports in education isn't just a pipe dream; it's a pixelated revolution that's leveling up learning for students of all abilities. From building essential skills to fostering inclusivity and breaking down barriers, competitive gaming offers a world of possibilities for students with special needs.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none #E3E3E3 0cm;padding:0cm;mso-padding-alt:0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;&#10;mso-border-between:0cm none #E3E3E3;mso-padding-between:0cm">So let's grab our controllers, power up our consoles, and embark on an epic quest to redefine education one pixel at a time. Because in the realm of esports, everyone has a chance to be a hero, regardless of their abilities or challenges. And that, is a victory worth celebrating. Happy gaming!</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:15.0pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:&#10;15.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:normal;background:white;border:none;&#10;mso-border-alt:none Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing <div><p><strong>Mark Solomons,</strong> CEO of <a href="https://welbee.co.uk/">School Wellbeing Accelerator</a> - an acclaimed wellbeing expert with over 12 years’ experience developing leadership and culture in schools and creator of <a href="https://welbee.co.uk/">Welbee</a> a highly effective online evaluation and staff wellbeing improvement tool, winner of the ERA 2022 Wellbeing Award and GESS Awards 2022 ‘Judges’ Commendation’ – discusses how to improve wellbeing through improving personal effectiveness</p> <p>Personal effectiveness is an integral part of our personal wellbeing. We can all recognise the feeling of satisfaction for a job well done, and conversely have likely experienced the opposite – the anxiety and stress that comes with unfinished tasks and a seemingly endless ‘to do’ list. Sustainable work pressure can be positive and beneficial, however when this turns to ongoing stress, it becomes negative. It’s important to recognise this and improving your effectiveness is one way to restore balance.&nbsp;</p> <p>Whether you are a leader, teacher or support staff, working in schools typically comes with a heavy workload, and the majority of the education workforce is engaged in a daily routine that often passes the contractual work hours. If you let your workload dictate the hours worked, as many do, this will inevitably lead to an unsustainable work pattern, which can significantly impact your personal health and wellbeing.</p> <p>In schools, there are high levels of accountability, with the need to meet targets, deadlines and deliver against the curriculum. There may be ‘unspoken’ expectations to take on additional responsibilities, as well as demands from students, parents or colleagues – those you naturally feel you do not want to let down. Or simply a personal need to be a perfectionist - to deliver everything, rather than accepting when things are good enough.</p> <p>Despite the pressures or perceived pressures created by the never-ending workload, it is important to keep things in perspective. The more stressed and anxious we are about everything that we perceive as ‘having to be done’, the less likely we are to achieve it.</p> <p>So how can we break poor work habits? What changes are needed so we make better choices about working hours?</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_facebook_button" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_twitter_button" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_linkedin_button" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_email_button" displayText="email"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_sharethis_button" displayText="sharethis"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/personal-effectiveness-and-wellbeing" st_title="Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing" class="st_pinterest_button" displayText="pinterest"></span> </div> <div> <div>Posted date</div> <div>1 year 3 months ago</div> </div> <div> <div>Short title</div> <div>Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing</div> </div> <div> <div>Short summary</div> <div><p>How can we break poor work habits?</p> </div> </div> <div> <div>Regions</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/africa" hreflang="en">Africa</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/asia" hreflang="en">Asia</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/caribbean" hreflang="en">Caribbean</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/europe-0" hreflang="en">Europe</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/middle-east" hreflang="en">Middle East</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/north-america" hreflang="en">North America</a></div> <div><a href="/gess/south-america" hreflang="en">South America</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Other topics</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/wellbeing" hreflang="en">Wellbeing</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Author</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/profile/mark-solomons" hreflang="en">Mark Solomons</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Rate</div> <div><form class="fivestar-form-5" id="vote--5" data-drupal-selector="fivestar-form-5" action="/gess/taxonomy/term/611/feed" method="post" accept-charset="UTF-8"> <div class="clearfix fivestar-average-text fivestar-average-stars fivestar-form-item fivestar-basic"><div class="js-form-item form-item js-form-type-fivestar form-item-vote js-form-item-vote form-no-label"> <div class="js-form-item form-item js-form-type-select form-item-vote js-form-item-vote form-no-label"> <select class="vote form-select" data-drupal-selector="edit-vote" aria-describedby="edit-vote--10--description" id="edit-vote--10" name="vote"><option value="-">Select rating</option><option value="20">Give it 1/5</option><option value="40">Give it 2/5</option><option value="60">Give it 3/5</option><option value="80">Give it 4/5</option><option value="100">Give it 5/5</option><option value="0">Cancel rating</option></select> <div id="edit-vote--10--description" class="description"> <div class="fivestar-summary fivestar-summary-average-count"> <span class="empty">No votes yet</span> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div><input class="js-hide button js-form-submit form-submit" data-drupal-selector="edit-submit" type="submit" id="edit-submit--5" name="op" value="Rate" /> <input autocomplete="off" data-drupal-selector="form-1eurp-ccigrbggnjwbo3yhyzx8-t5wd7euhurdeai6g" type="hidden" name="form_build_id" value="form-1EuRp_ccIgRbggnjWbO3YHyzx8-T5wd7euHURDeaI6g" /> <input data-drupal-selector="edit-fivestar-form-5" type="hidden" name="form_id" value="fivestar_form_5" /> </form> </div> </div> <div> <div>Migrate nid</div> <div>13431</div> </div> <div> <div>Top story</div> <div>On</div> </div> <div> <div>Article main topic</div> <div> <div><a href="/gess/wellbeing" hreflang="en">Wellbeing</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div>Redirected</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>Moved to features</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>Lead image:</div> <div> <img loading="lazy" src="/gess/sites/gess/portal/files/2024-07/mark%2520solomons%2520article%2520image%2520resized_0.PNG" width="790" height="527" alt="" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> <div> <div>New batch</div> <div>Off</div> </div> <div> <div>redirected</div> <div>Off</div> </div> Fri, 12 Jul 2024 10:24:09 +0000 Feedimporter 13431 at http://www.gesseducation.com/gess How to Foster SEN/Inclusion in Your School in 2025 http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/how-foster-seninclusion-your-school-2025-5 <div><p><strong>1. These conditions affect the way students process, retain, and express information. Simple tasks like reading aloud, solving math problems, or writing a paragraph can become overwhelming hurdles. These difficulties are not a reflection of a student’s intelligence or effort. Instead, they highlight the need for tailored support to help these children thrive.</p> <p>Unfortunately, many of these challenges go unnoticed. Behaviors like frustration, avoidance, or even defiance are often misunderstood. A child may appear disinterested or unmotivated, but in reality, they may be struggling with an unseen obstacle. Recognizing learning disorders requires more than just training. It demands empathy, patience, and a willingness to dig deeper to truly understand each child’s needs.</p> <p><strong>Common Learning Disorders in the Classroom</strong></p> <p>To support students effectively, educators need to understand the most common learning disorders and how they manifest:</p> <p><strong>•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Dyslexia:</strong> affects reading, spelling, and often writing. Students may avoid reading aloud or struggle to organize their thoughts on paper but often excel in creative and problem-solving tasks.</p> <p><strong>•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;ADHD:</strong> A neurological condition that impacts focus, attention, and impulse control and hence affects learning. Students might struggle to sit still, follow instructions, or complete tasks, though they often thrive in dynamic, hands-on environments.</p> <p><strong>•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Dyscalculia:</strong> makes understanding numbers and math concepts challenging. Even basic arithmetic can feel overwhelming for students who may excel in other areas.</p> <p><strong>•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Dysgraphia: </strong>affects writing skills, making it hard to express thoughts clearly on paper. For these students, written assignments can feel disproportionately difficult.</p> <p><strong>•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): </strong>While not a learning disorder, autism affects social interaction, communication, and behavior. Many students on the spectrum also experience co-occurring learning challenges.</p> <p>Understanding these disorders is the first step in supporting students effectively.</p> <p><strong>Spotting the Signs</strong></p> <p>Identifying learning disorders in the classroom is rarely straightforward. These conditions don’t come with visible markers or neat labels. They often manifest as patterns of behavior that, at first glance, can seem unrelated but at close attention there is always a pattern.</p> <p>You might notice a student who consistently avoids tasks like reading or writing or one who seems perpetually distracted and restless. Another might struggle with math concepts that their peers grasp easily. Behavioral signs, such as frustration, avoidance, or even disruptive outbursts, can provide additional clues.</p> <p>The key is to observe with empathy and patience. Look for consistent patterns over time and consider how these challenges affect the student across different contexts.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Creating a Supportive Environment: </strong>Once a potential learning disorder is identified, the focus shifts to creating an environment where the student can thrive.</p> <p><strong>Differentiating Instruction</strong></p> <p>Students learn in diverse ways. Tailoring teaching methods to accommodate this diversity benefits everyone. Visual aids, hands-on activities, and technology-based tools can help students grasp concepts more effectively. Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps can make learning feel less overwhelming.</p> <p><strong>Providing Accommodations</strong></p> <p>Small changes can make a big difference. Allow extra time for assignments, offer flexible seating arrangements, or use assistive technologies like audiobooks and speech-to-text tools. These accommodations reduce stress and create a more equitable learning experience.</p> <p><strong>Building Confidence</strong></p> <p>Celebrate effort, not just results. Students with learning disorders often face repeated failures that erode their confidence. Acknowledging their hard work and progress—no matter how small, helps build resilience and self-esteem.</p> <p><strong>The Power of Collaboration </strong>Educators cannot do this alone. Collaboration with special education teachers, school psychologists, and parents is essential. Regular communication ensures everyone is aligned on strategies that work best for the child. Sharing insights and observations can also pave the way for formal assessments and individualized support plans.</p> <p><strong>The Importance of Early Intervention</strong></p> <p>Time is critical when it comes to learning disorders. Early identification allows for targeted interventions that can significantly improve outcomes. Educators play a vital role in this process. Your observations, combined with input from specialists and families, can lead to timely support that transforms a child’s educational experience.</p> <p>If you suspect a learning disorder, document your observations and look for consistent patterns. Discuss your concerns with school administrators or counselors and engage the child’s family in the conversation.</p> <p>Building an Inclusive Classroom An inclusive classroom doesn’t just accommodate students with learning disorders but it empowers them. It’s a space where every child feels valued, supported, and capable of achieving their potential.</p> <p>Creating an inclusive environment means celebrating diversity in learning styles and fostering empathy among students. Teach children to understand and appreciate differences, creating a culture of mutual respect and support. When students see that their peers with learning disorders are celebrated for their unique strengths, it benefits the entire classroom community.</p> <p><strong>Changing Lives Through Education</strong></p> <p>Supporting students with learning disorders is about more than improving academic outcomes. It’s about shaping lives. When a child feels understood and supported, they gain confidence, resilience, and a sense of possibility.</p> <p>Every educator has the power to make this difference. By equipping yourself with the tools to recognize and support learning disorders, you create opportunities for growth that extend far beyond the classroom. You teach students that their worth isn’t defined by their struggles but by their unique contributions and potential.</p> <p>Supporting students with learning disorders is about more than improving academic outcomes. They were often segregated, their unique needs overlooked, and their potential underestimated. They were always isolated from what I like to call (real life) environments with neurotypical children, and this limited their abilities to develop, grow, and interact with the mainstream community. Despite our continuous, unwavering efforts to equip them with the necessary skills and enable their application in their natural environments, it has sadly become an impossible task. The issue lies in the fact that the skills are not being directly applied and integrated into reality. Instead, we simply provide them with the methods of application, only to then leave them to their own in their environments - tasked with retrieving what they have learned and attempting to apply it, as if they were just homework assignments.</p> <p>I knew all along that this was not the right approach to integrating the students with determinations into society. And what has further strengthened my belief in the existence of a better approach is the fact that one of the key goals of the ambitious Vision 2030 is to create inclusive educational environments for all, which brings a transformative shift in the way we approach education and ensure the inclusion of students with determinations. Beech Hall School has boldly stepped up to lead the charge in realizing this vision.</p> <p><strong>Discovering Beech Hall: A New Era of Inclusion</strong></p> <p>When I first stepped foot on the Beech Hall campus, I was struck by the school's vision and approach towards creating inclusive educational environments for all. Their aim is to build a sense of belonging and acceptance for every student regardless of their abilities or needs and to foster a community that encourages each student to support and learn from one another. They have reinforced this by carefully attending to every detail, starting from the classrooms, which were designed with universal accessibility and the latest educational technology in mind to cater to the diverse needs of each individual. Specialized equipment, adapted curricula, and a team of dedicated educators work in harmony to create an environment where every child can thrive.</p> <p><strong>Beech Hall's Miracles:</strong> <strong>Stories of Change</strong></p> <p>The true testament to the inclusive educational environment's success, however, lies in the transformative stories of Beech Hall's students themselves. I remember a young boy in KG3 who had been diagnosed with autism and had struggled to find his place in mainstream schools. At Beech Hall, he blossomed, his unique talents and strengths celebrated by his peers and teachers. Despite his autism diagnosis, he had an exceptional academic ability, demonstrating a reading level far beyond his peers. I watched in awe as he participated for the first time in the school's graduation ceremony, with the support of his dedicated Learning Support Assistant. He was performing on stage for the first time in his life! This was an opportunity he would not have had if Beech Hall had not opened its doors and embraced the Saudi 2030 vision for inclusive education. We are still in the year 2024, and Beech Hall has already made significant strides in realizing the goals of the 2030 vision.</p> <p>Another profoundly inspiring success story I will cherish forever is that of the student who had struggled with a severe speech delay. His only means of expressing himself were heartbreaking cries and gestures. However, after joining our school and receiving dedicated speech and language therapy, a remarkable transformation unfolded. Gradually, he began to speak simple words, his voice finding its strength. And now, this very same student confidently forms clear sentences, his eyes shining with the joy of being heard.</p> <p>This extraordinary progress would not have been possible without the nurturing, inclusive environment he found here. In this space that celebrated his unique needs, he learned the necessary skills and was empowered to apply them directly in his daily life. This is the true power of inclusive, compassionate education—to unlock the boundless potential in every child, no matter the challenges they face. It is a story that fills me with overwhelming pride and conviction in the transformative impact of building communities that leave no one behind.</p> <p>These are just a few of the countless stories that have unfolded within the walls of Beech Hall School. Each one is a testament to the power of inclusive education, shattering the misconceptions and breaking down the barriers that have long plagued the education system.</p> <p><strong>Shaping Futures: Beech Hall's Inspiring Impact</strong></p> <p>As I reflect on the journey of Beech Hall School, I am filled with a sense of profound hope and optimism. This institution has not only transformed the lives of its students but has also paved the way for a more equitable and inclusive future for education in Saudi Arabia. It is a shining example of what can be achieved when we embrace diversity, celebrate differences, and commit ourselves to the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Beech Hall School's remarkable achievements are a testament to the transformative power of the Saudi Vision 2030.</p> <p>I am honored to be a part of this journey, to witness the remarkable strides made by Beech Hall School, and to share this inspirational story with the world. Let this be a rallying cry for all educational institutions to follow suit, to embrace the power of inclusive education, and to create a future where no child is left behind. In doing so, we can collectively work towards the realization of Vision 2030, a future where every learner is empowered to reach their full potential.</p> <p>Written by Tharaa Alhewilly,&nbsp;<strong>Lead LSAs Coordinator / Lead Mawhiba Program Coordinator</strong></p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_facebook_button" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_twitter_button" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_linkedin_button" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_email_button" displayText="email"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_sharethis_button" displayText="sharethis"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/beech-hall-riyadh-pioneering-inclusion-vision-2030" st_title="Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030" class="st_pinterest_button" displayText="pinterest"></span> </div> <div> <div>Posted date</div> <div>1 year 4 months ago</div> </div> <div> <div>Short title</div> <div>Beech Hall Riyadh: Pioneering Inclusion for Vision 2030</div> </div> <div> <div>First paragraph</div> <div><p>As a special education teacher, I have dedicated my life to nurturing and empowering students with determination. This article will explore strategies for integrating university and careers guidance into the curriculum, fostering essential career skills, building strong relationships with universities, and empowering school counsellors to support students' academic and career ambitions.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px"><strong>Integrating University and Careers Guidance into the Curriculum</strong></p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Incorporating university and career guidance into the curriculum is key to helping students make informed decisions about their future. Rather than treating career education as a separate or optional activity, it should be embedded into various subjects and grade levels throughout a student’s educational journey. Every teacher, regardless of their subject area, plays a role in fostering career awareness and encouraging exploration of future opportunities.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">For instance, STEM classes can incorporate real-world examples from fields like engineering, medicine, or data science, while humanities teachers can encourage students to explore career paths in law, journalism, or public service. These subject-specific explorations enable students to understand how the material they are learning in class can apply to a variety of careers, giving them the chance to see their education as a direct bridge to the professional world.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">In addition to integrating career discussions into regular classes, schools should develop structured career education programs, such as career fairs, university visits, and work experience placements. These events expose students to diverse industries and higher education options, helping them make better choices about their next steps.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px"><strong>Developing Essential Career Skills in Students</strong></p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Career readiness is about much more than knowing which university to attend or which profession to pursue. It involves developing a set of essential skills that will allow students to succeed in any workplace. These skills include communication, collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptability—all of which can be fostered within the school setting.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Project-based learning is an effective way to build these skills, as it encourages students to collaborate, think critically, and solve real-world problems. Through working on projects that simulate professional challenges, students not only develop practical skills but also gain the confidence to apply these abilities in a future work environment.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Additionally, schools can introduce practical career skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, and networking. Workshops on these topics provide students with the professional preparation they need to transition smoothly from secondary education to university or the workforce.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px"><strong>Building Strong Relationships with Universities</strong></p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">To help students navigate the complex landscape of higher education, it’s essential for schools to build and maintain strong relationships with universities. These partnerships give students access to up-to-date information about programs, admissions criteria, and campus life, which are crucial as they make decisions about where to apply.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Schools should take proactive steps to invite university representatives to speak with students, arrange campus visits, and offer guidance on the admissions process. Additionally, collaboration between schools and universities ensures that counsellors and teachers are kept informed of new trends and developments in higher education, enabling them to provide students with relevant and accurate information.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Such partnerships don’t only benefit students; they position schools as trusted intermediaries between secondary education and universities, which strengthens the overall student experience.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px"><strong>Empowering and Trusting School Counsellors</strong></p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">A vital aspect of integrating university and career guidance into schools is empowering school counsellors, who are specialists in helping students chart their academic and professional futures. For this integration to be effective, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) must trust and provide counsellors with the resources, autonomy, and authority necessary to guide students effectively.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Counsellors bring unique expertise to the school environment, and their role extends far beyond academic advising. They are pivotal in offering personalized support, identifying student strengths, and providing career exploration opportunities. When the leadership team empowers counsellors to lead on developing career programs, coordinating university visits, and implementing student guidance plans, the impact on the student body is substantial.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">It is equally important for counsellors to have a strong, collaborative relationship with school leadership. Regular communication allows counsellors to provide updates on student needs, emerging university trends, and potential partnerships, helping the leadership team make informed decisions. By trusting counsellors to shape and lead career education initiatives, the leadership team creates an environment where students can access tailored and effective support that aligns with their unique goals.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px"><strong>Conclusion</strong></p> <p style="margin-bottom:11px">Effectively supporting university and career aspirations within secondary schools requires a multi-faceted approach. By integrating career guidance into the curriculum, developing essential career skills, fostering strong relationships with universities, trusting and empowering school counsellors, schools can create a comprehensive support system that helps students navigate their future with confidence. As educators, we have the privilege and responsibility to guide our students through one of the most important decisions of their lives, and with the right strategies, we can equip them to thrive both academically and professionally.</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_facebook_button" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_twitter_button" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_linkedin_button" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_email_button" displayText="email"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_sharethis_button" displayText="sharethis"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/supporting-university-and-careers-within-your-secondary-school-guide-teachers-and-leadership" st_title="Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School: A Guide for Teachers and Leadership" class="st_pinterest_button" displayText="pinterest"></span> </div> <div> <div>Posted date</div> <div>1 year 4 months ago</div> </div> <div> <div>Short title</div> <div>Supporting University and Careers within Your Secondary School; a Guide for Teachers and Leadership</div> </div> <div> <div>First paragraph</div> <div><p>One of the most important roles of educators is to help students navigate life beyond secondary school. Teachers will play a crucial role in supporting students' emotional well-being and social skills, serving as mentors and coaches, but equally important is for teachers to understand their own internal systems, being able to build their own resilience, knowledge, and wisdom towards their &nbsp;personal development.&nbsp; We deliver resilience and coaching programmes that support staff to elevate their own emotional literacy skills.&nbsp;Ensuring a two-pronged approach to coaching, which means understanding how to coach externally but also coach oneself and understand the psychology of ones mind, utilising the inner coaching techniques. We have found that after delivering this methodology to over 4000 individuals, we have seen a shift in mindset and a deeper understanding of personal responsibility towards their own personal and professional development.</p> <p>We have just completed a 9-month pilot study in Wales, where 3 schools were involved in testing our online personal Growth curriculum—called leading oneself. 106 educators participated, which included all tiers, such as Head teachers, senior leaders, teachers, support staff, administrators, and lunchtime supervisors. They had access to over 300 minutes of content, which includes topics to elevate emotional intelligence, self-regulation, resilience, and coaching. They held weekly rich dialogue group sessions and worked through the programme either independently or within small groups. The report findings from the Head Teachers have stated that there has been a change of culture within establishments as a result of the programme. &nbsp; What we hope to achieve is that staff can then model the changes, which include regulating ones systems, setting strong intentions on how we would like to show up to various situations, and by demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, teachers will inspire students to adopt a similar mindset.</p> <p>Our personal growth programme is for individuals or teams seeking to unlock their full potential. By engaging in a structured programme focused on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, goal setting, and skill development, individuals can enhance their confidence, resilience, and overall well-being. The programme provides a roadmap for continuous improvement, empowering individuals to overcome challenges, embrace change, and strive for personal and professional success. Through introspection, learning, and self-discovery, participants can cultivate a growth mindset. What do we mean by introspective reflection? Introspective reflection refers to the process of looking inward, examining one's own thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a deep, contemplative, non-judgmental manner. It involves self-examination and self-awareness, where individuals reflect on their values, beliefs, goals, and actions to gain insight into themselves and their lives.</p> <p>Navigating the sometimes complexities of introspective reflection is a main part of my work, where individuals often reach a tipping point of burnout and struggle with diverse life transitions, whether stemming from work-related challenges, media exposure, financial changes, selling a business, or transitioning from a career in sports. Providing support during these critical moments brings me a profound sense of harmony as I impart knowledge and wisdom, empowering individuals to introspect, realign, reassess, and ultimately progress equipped with a stronger toolkit.</p> <p>Understanding the mind in this way can indeed contribute to creating a stronger and more cohesive society and it can help individuals navigate conflicts more effectively. By understanding cognitive biases, emotional triggers, and communication patterns, people can approach disagreements with greater understanding and seek constructive solutions.</p> <p>By exploring the depths of our minds and mastering techniques to strengthen our resilience and maintain equilibrium in times of hardship, we set out on a quest to comprehend a new language - the intricate dialect of our individual minds. Consider the transformation that could unfold if we were to systematically enhance social and emotional learning from early childhood to university, nurturing deeper understanding and wisdom each passing year within the educational framework. In the span of two decades, such dedication would undoubtedly shape a profoundly altered society.</p> <p>This form of understanding does require, patience and discipline. I feel that too often in today's fast-paced society, where 10-second social media reels dominate our screens and attention spans, the virtues of tolerance and patience are facing unprecedented challenges. The constant barrage of quick, flashy content has created a culture of instant gratification and impatience, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to practice empathy, understanding, and restraint in their interactions with others.</p> <p>By consciously choosing to disconnect from the relentless buzz of 10-second reels and instead engage in meaningful, face-to-face interactions, we can begin to rebuild our capacity for empathy, tolerance, and patience. It is through these deliberate acts of introspection and self-awareness that we can reclaim our ability to navigate the complexities of modern life with grace and understanding.</p> <p>This is why collaboration among communities, schools, families, and policymakers is crucial in tackling the mental health crisis impacting our society.</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_facebook_button" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_twitter_button" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_linkedin_button" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_email_button" displayText="email"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_sharethis_button" displayText="sharethis"></span> <span st_url="http://www.gesseducation.com/gess/gess-talks/articles/roles-teachers-future-education" st_title="The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education" class="st_pinterest_button" displayText="pinterest"></span> </div> <div> <div>Posted date</div> <div>1 year 4 months ago</div> </div> <div> <div>Short title</div> <div>The Roles of Teachers in the Future of Education</div> </div> <div> <div>First paragraph</div> <div><p><strong>The roles of teachers in the future of education</strong> as we know are expected to evolve significantly due to technological advancements, changing student needs, and new pedagogical approaches.
