Quitch Edtech Summit

Victoria EdTech Summit: Meet the exhibitors - Quitch

Quitch platform is a content-neutral gamified mobile learning platform that challenges your students in a fun way!

Tell us about the company

Quitch is a EdTech company based in Melbourne, Australia. Our platform is a content-neutral gamified mobile learning platform that challenges your students in a fun way! Educators curate and structure ‘quizzes’ and invite their students, via a free app on their mobile phones, to compete for prestige, points and badges. Quitch was built by an academic, Gráinne Oates, CEO and founder, that was facing challenges with her students to engage with the content. In today’s digital era the education sector is struggling to keep students engaged in learning and are lagging in technology innovation. Quitch provides real-time data on learner performance allowing for early intervention, is simple-to-set up and use, and can disseminate content in bite sized ‘chunks’. The students can learn anytime, anywhere and the educators have access to the personalised analytics with real-time feedback.

What initiatives are you working on currently

To support students during these challenging times we are providing all Quitch marketplace classes for FREE for a limited time. Download the Quitch app to get started!

We are delighted to announce that Quitch, the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand AFAANZ and Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand CA ANZ  are collaborating to bring a fun National Competition, to ALL first-year accounting students across New Zealand and Australia Universities.

Quitch will launch its accounting module on May 17th for a 3-week competition. CA ANZ will sponsor this event and award prizes of $1,000, $700 and $300 to the top performing students on the Quitch leaderboard at the end of the competition. In addition, AFAANZ, will award a $500 prize to the winning instructor.

What are the benefits for educational establishments using your product/s

Quitch has been proven to boost performance and improve retention. Our evidence shows that students who engaged regularly with Quitch had on average a grade 22% higher than those who chose not to engage. The implementation of Quitch in a class was associated with a 12% higher student retention.

What products/solutions are best suited for teachers/academics (schools or universities)? How will these products/solutions help educators become more effective?

For the educator’s perspective, Quitch allows the educators to see their students individual performance and content performance in real-time. We’ve brought over our popular traffic light system from the Quitch app to help educators assess their content. Orange-red colours show areas of difficulty and suggest learners are struggling with content. The traffic light system will guide you to low performing topics and questions for you to review with the class. Green shows that learners are achieving a high accuracy and are acing the content!

How has the current pandemic affected how you operate / what have you had to change? What lessons did you learn?

Now more than ever, educators are looking to engage with their students outside of the classroom and that’s why Quitch was built in the first instance. Quitch was developed out of the Swinburne University in Melbourne in 2015 and the idea behind it was to engage with the students outside of the classroom.

Quitch was built by an educator (our CEO and founder) and co-designed with students. We talk about Quitch as your knowledge companion. Quitch is not for replacing the primary learning – it is about  the consolidation and reinforcement of the primary learning by active recall and prompts to their mobile devices.

What do you think the top Edtech trends do you see emerging this year ?

Distance/remote learning became the top 2020 educational technology trend overnight because of COVID-19 and school closures. Multiple sectors were forced to adapt rapidly and the demand for online educational has grown substantially. Not only the educator sector itself but also the corporation and association sector. We are living in the era of technology and the new generation’s dynamic has changed.

When Quitch was developed back in 2015, Grainne Oates was tired of seeing her students fail the same subjects year in, year out—no matter what she tried. Students were often distracted by their digital devices—they were more interested in social media and games than learning. Instead of trying to fight against the lure of mobile technology, Grainne decided to use it to her advantage. With this in mind, she developed Quitch—a mobile learning platform designed to improve retention and boost performance through game-based techniques, personalised data and can be played offline. We think that this format of learning has become more popular and we will never return to the old way of doing things.
