Victoria EdTech Summit: Meet the exhibitors - TALi

TALi is a developer of game-based apps to assess and enhance early childhood attentional skills. Here's a quick Q+A for you to get to know them a little better.

Tell us about the company

TALi is a developer of game-based apps to assess and enhance early childhood attentional skills, a key element of overall cognitive performance and predictor for short-term and long-term academic success, mental wellbeing, as well as employability during adulthood. TALi’s evidence based solutions, based on 25+ years of scientific research, have been proven to accurately assess childhood attention skills, screen for impairments and significantly improve core attention capabilities at this critical age of development. As a formative assessment, early intervention and tool to consolidate attention-related cognitive performance, TALi gives all children the opportunity for the ultimate head start.

What initiatives are you working on currently

We are constantly innovating at TALi to make sure we are bringing the most appropriate solutions for assessing and enhancing a child’s attention.

What are the benefits for educational establishments using your product/s

Attention is key to the way that we, as humans, perceive and process information, and thereby directly impacting learning and communication. Attention difficulties can inhibit the development of those skills and can pose a risk not just to a child’s academic success, but long-term mental wellbeing. Studies show that early childhood attention is a strong predictor of the likelihood of finishing school, college and employability, whilst impaired attention increases the likelihood of delinquent behaviours, substance abuse and diagnosis of depression and anxiety. The more we understand about the importance of attention, the more important it is for stakeholders to have the information about a child’s attention capabilities and ensure they have the best possible chances at success.

What products/solutions are best suited for teachers/academics (schools or universities)? How will these products/solutions help educators become more effective?

Our TALi DETECT Attention Assessment should be part of any formative assessment program to ensure every child is given a chance to succeed. Strong attention provides the foundation for academic performance, mental wellbeing and a head start in life.

How has the current pandemic affected how you operate / what have you had to change? What lessons did you learn?

As a developer of digital solutions, our team was able to adapt quickly to a remote environment. Given some very strict restrictions in our home state of Victoria, it was important to ensure our team was able to manage a healthy work/life balance whilst working in a home environment. Although we have returned to work, the retained some of the initiatives that were implemented in 2020.

What do you think the top Edtech trends do you see emerging this year

Technologies that better integrate the education system with the community – we’ve pieced together so much ourselves in the last year, there will be some interesting technologies bring together stakeholders to ensure a student’s wellbeing and holistic academic success.
